Each Chargeback is filed by the issuer under a reason code which offers a brief explanation as to why the cardholder is disputing the transaction. Each reason code has its own set of rules based on the card network (that is, Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, Discover, and so on).
Reason codes gives us a glimpse of why a dispute was raised. There are specific documents or evidence required in relation to each reason code, in order to properly provide a solid evidence to fight the case and potentially win a Chargeback. Since Chargebacks are time sensitive, card networks provide time limits on each reason code to help merchants manage time and data to submit their claims in a timely manner.
Refer to the full list of Chargeback Reason Codes for the card schemes that Assembly supports.
